There's this special something about watching movies by yourself, with all the lights off and headphones on. For some time you can be part of a completely different story, going from one mood to another while being captivated by a fictive reality. Sometimes it feels like entire years are passing when you watch and listen carefully. The room is dark and you're silently absorbing the small screen like Peeping Tom. But you're not hiding, you just cannot be seen. You are in a comfort zone because you are positioned in a safe place between two worlds in which you have to do nothing, but observe.

''Sometimes My Arms Bend Back'' may not be a soundtrack for a movie, but it is a plot. Each song contains an atmosphere that bears a resemblance to the one of emotionally charged scenes in movies. The mood of the album is that of a slow motion close up cut in which the main character's expression is extremely visible... the background is somewhat blurry and a warm shade of light forms deep shadows on every crease and surface it hits.

Brunnen's release is pretty much a back to the basics composition which, gladly, doesn't sound outdated, but rather timeless and daring. What is truly interesting about this LP is its lack of drums. Only on the first track, ''Tigerlily Girl'', a faded drum sample can be heard. Simple guitar rhythms, soft vocals, a few distorted piano notes accompanied by field recordings are basically the elements of this surprisingly beautiful collection of modern ballads.
