Another thematic release from Lutto Lento, which would work great as a radio play. It seems to be about hiding, trying to preserve one’s own cohesion in the face of an invading external power; trying to prevent being torn into many little pieces.

The ‘First Partition’ is pervaded by sounds of footsteps on wooden floors interlaced with scary organ music, screams, church bells and choirs. A dark soundscape that evokes feelings of pain, sadness and the urgency of remaining unseen.

The latter appears to have been accomplished in the ‘Second Partition’ in which we’re taken to a more tranquil, safer place, still being able to hear the screams in the distance and the sounds of scavengers lurking close by. This requires some immersive reception by the listener and the overall effect should be quite captivating.

«Lutto Lento is Lubomir Grzelak (Sangoplasmo Records). Following his acclaimed Duch Gór tape, Partition consists of two long pieces, each based around the grim era of turbulence in Grzelak’s home country of Poland at the end of the 18th Century. The land was forcefully divided between Russia, Prussia and Austria who worked in collaboration to overwhelm the population and claim it as their own, resulting in the elimination of Poland for 123 years until the signing of Treaty of Versailles in 1919. In the century that had passed the Polish people had been subjected to forced military service, the closure of their schools and universities and the subsequent gradual dissipation of their culture and identity.»
