Bandcamp pick of the week: Maistah Aphrica - Maistah Aphrica

September 11, 2017

Maistah Aphrica delivers a mix of modern jazz, afrobeat, funk and psychedelia. The octet Maistah Aphrica is heavy on the wind instruments and percussion, but the multiple keyboards are the glue that gets all the influences to stick, offering something from the Balombo, Angola scene.

The ensemble features Gabriele Cancelli (trumpet, flutes, percussion), Mirko Cisilino (trombone, trumpet, percussion), Marco D'Orlando (congas, timbales, djembe, percussion), Clarissa Durizzotto (alto sax, percussion), Enrico Giletti (electric bass), Andrea Gulli (synthesizers, dub effects), Alessandro Mansutti (drums) and Giorgio Pacorig (electric organ, Korg MS 20, devices).
