During the fall and winter of 2000 and the month of January 2001, Vincent Gallo recorded this album, in Hollywood Hills, California, and released it the same year on Warp Records.

The American polyvalent artist is most known for his independent movies, including Buffalo '66, which he wrote, directed, scored and starred in, and The Brown Bunny, which he also wrote, directed, produced, starred in and photographed. With appearances in (quite) popular movies such as Goodfellas, Arizona Dream, The Funeral and Palookaville, Vincent Gallo likewise gave a few shots and experimented with different kinds of music, and the result is not bad. Not bad at all. Actually, this album is really beautiful.

In downtown New York City, in 1979, painter Jean-Michel Basquiat and performance artist Michael Holman founded their industrial-sound band, called Gray, named after Gray’s Anatomy. Gallo was a member of the band for a short period of time. Just after Basquiat’s sudden passing (he died of heroin overdose at age 27, in 1988), Holman, Taylor, Thyme and Vincent Gallo reunited as Gray and performed at Basquiat’s Memorial at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in the Citicorp Building.

Member of the industrial/experimental band Bohack (alongside Wayne Richard Clifford and Claudia Porcelli), Vincent Gallo recorded only one album under this band’s belt, called It Took Several Wives. This was in 1982. Shortly after its release, the band split up and Gallo began his film career.

After including several of his own original compositions on 1998's Buffalo 66 soundtrack, Gallo formed the group Bunny, together with actor and musician (guitarist) Lucas Haas. Despite a successful Japanese tour and a debut album completed for Sony, the group split up, resulting in the shelving of the debut's release.

This album expresses some of Vincent Gallo’s best work, music wise. Starting with the elegant and smooth leftfield downtempo/jazz named ”I wrote this song for the girl Paris Hilton”. The girl. The song’s name comes from a friend of Lukas Haas. Gallo had yet to meet Paris Hilton, but she would later appear in his short film "Honey Bunny". „My Beautiful White Dog” swims deeper into electronic ambient improvisations and loops, creating a soft and delicate soundscape, which fills up the hidden corners of your room.

No need to rush. There’s no hurry on this one, but an invitation to enter an intimate world of nostalgic melodramatic melodies that will make you cry while cutting the onion in the kitchen, for the pasta, in a meditative gesture of lamentation. It is all deep, smooth and relaxed. Silver-tongued. Yes, play it; make it happen. Taking in consideration weird tracks such as ”Yes I’m Lonely” and Gallo's own sperm or sexual fantasies, available for sale as conceptual works on his website, you really get an intriguing picture of this - somehow - mysterious character.

Top class album!
